As a Certified B Corp, our firm is committed to providing legal services to individuals and organizations that strive to make a positive impact in their communities. Baltimore’s Tola’s Room stands out as such an organization – an interactive three-floor home museum and culture space – that provides an unforgettable opportunity to experience and celebrate Puerto Rican/Nuyorican heritage up close and firsthand. With an emphasis on Baltimore’s local Boricua narrative, Tola’s Room highlights the history, traditions, and contributions of the city’s Puerto Rican community.
Step inside.
Founded in 2018 by artist, educator, and community leader Christina Delgado, a New York native and proud Baltimore resident for more than 20 years, Tola’s Room was created out of both personal reflection and community need. After the sudden loss of her father in 2013, Christina found herself going through his possessions and reconnecting with her culture, and her sense of self as a woman, a woman of color, and as a Puerto Rican. She set out to honor her father and his legacy through photography, but soon realized she had another calling: to create a permanent, inviting space where Puerto Rican stories could be seen, felt, and shared.
“Culture work brought my career full circle. It gave me purpose and confidence that my experiences can empower people to be the change they want to see.” – Christina Delgado, founder of Tola’s Room
Freedom from distractions like routine and time during the pandemic allowed Christina to gain more momentum and embrace her dream of building a collective and creative space for everyone to connect and learn from each other. Named after her daughter, Omotola, Tola’s Room is meant to be a second home to the Baltimore Boricua community and a welcoming hub for all who want to explore the rich Puerto Rican heritage in Baltimore. As you step into the vibrant space, be prepared to enjoy immersive exhibits that spark curiosity and conversation as you explore the spirit of Puerto Rico through music, art, food, and history. The museum is also a community gathering place, offering events, workshops, and collaborations that foster connection and belonging.
Baltimore is home to more than 6,000 Puerto Ricans, but representation of their history and contributions has not always been prominently reflected in the community. Tola’s Room is changing this. It stands as a beacon of Puerto Rican heritage, fostering equity and inclusion in the arts, and ensuring that the cultural traditions and personal stories of Puerto Rican families in Baltimore are protected, shared, and celebrated for generations to come.
At Nazareth Bonifacino Law, we believe that when we support our cultural institutions they are better positioned to grow and expand their impact on the communities they serve. We were proud to provide trademark services to Tola’s Room.
Whether you live in Baltimore or are visiting, we hope you will take time to step into Tola’s Room. We have no doubt that Tola’s Room and Christina’s leadership in the community will continue to shape the cultural landscape of Baltimore and beyond.
