In Maryland’s Gateway Arts District, Möbius Keramikk is redefining how we experience art in our everyday lives. Specializing in sculptural tabletop and home decor, the company brings a fresh perspective to the world of art, from vases and dinnerware to serigraphs, offering affordable and accessible options that creatively blend functionality and artistic expression.
You may be wondering about the name, Möbius Keramikk, and its origin. The first word “Möbius” is inspired by the poem “Möbius Strip” by French surrealist Robert Desnos, and to the flat-but-twisted loop associated with the infinity symbol as well as the transition from two to three dimensions. The second word, Keramikk, is brimming with the Viking spirt – it is the Norwegian word for ceramic.
Founded by artist Christina Osheim in 2016, Möbius Keramikk is guided by the belief that art should be accessible and enjoyed by all. The art and design collections are not just for display—they are meant to be used, cherished, and integrated into daily life. Behind the brand is Christina’s personal and moving story. She describes herself as someone who has never not been an artist. She is also an entrepreneur living with the realities of a long-term traumatic brain injury (TBI) she experienced more than 20 years ago.
The TBI left her with permanent brain loss, a devastating diagnosis. But creating art and discovering ceramics after her injury have been her salvation. Her injury AND her determination to overcome it and thrive have shaped her future, her art, and her business. She has shared in her blog that “This injury has quite literally forced me to find my community and begin to build a team that can grow and work to make modern ceramics and design accessible to the world.”
Christina is driven by a commitment to help other TBI survivors like herself. In 2021, she launched NeuroMaps, the philanthropic arm of Möbius Keramikk, after being unable to find grants that supported TBI survivor entrepreneurs among the myriad of grants available for disabled individuals. Möbius Keramikk donates 50% of its profits to NeuroMaps to support TBI advocacy and TBI survivor entrepreneurial grants. The name NeuroMaps comes from the free-hand geometric drawings Christina makes while listening to lectures, podcasts, and any situation where information is being shared verbally. These drawings create a logic or “ neuro” map and are a tool she uses to assist her in turning short term memories into long term ones. These drawings have been turned into screen printed t-shirts, bags, ceramic coasters, and other home decor.
Christina’s journey from artist to entrepreneur, shaped by resilience and a commitment to accessibility, has made Möbius Keramikk more than just a business—it’s a testament to the power of creativity and the human (and Viking) spirit. Her company proudly celebrates the wonder and joy of art while reminding us that beauty and strength can emerge from even the most challenging circumstances.
As Christina’s legal partner, Nazareth Bonifacino Law helps protect her intellectual property and advise on other challenges so she can do what she does best – Create.
